Model Residential School for the Blind, Dharmasala, established by the Universal Braille and Talking Book Library Research and Educational Institute for the Blind (UBTREIB), has been silently shaping the future of many visually challenged children for the post 20 years.
Started in 1998, the school now has 17 students, nine boys and eight girls from class I to VII.
So far 90 students have passed out of the school. The school has nine staffs, including five teachers, of whom two are visually challenged.
The school has adopted the State syllabus and the students are able to equipped with the Braille script pursue their further studies in normal schools.
This institution is the only kannur district. The institution is situated at dharmasala, kannur,Kerala. The building was constructed by the Anandashramam, Kanhangad. The first floor of the building was constructed with contributions from the Cannanore Central Rotary Club in 2005.
“It is the generosity of many a philantropist that saw us through these years.
Gratefully remembering all the souls who kept the school going for more than a decade, the school authority expect aid from likeminded people till UBTREIB’s long-pending plea for a government grant is realised. Its bid to obtain the State aid has failed due to the government stipulation that such institutions should own a minimum of 1.25 acre land to be eligible for the grant.
The school is hoping that the aid will keep it going till a plea for government grant is realised.
