Running The Model Residential School for the Blind which was started in the year 1998 and inaugurated by the then Education Minister for the State of Kerala; Mr. PJ Joseph. This is the only institute of its kind in the Kannur District and provides free residential education; catering to the needs and aspirations of almost 20 students in its current format.
The school commenced operations with just five children in the first standard. Today, there are twenty students on the roll. Each year, there is a steady increase in the number of children who seek admission here. However, it must be remembered that the number of visually impaired children in Kannur who need specialised education is much higher and we would like to cater for more.
The school provides free education, free food and free accommodation to the children. In 2002, a small building was built with the help from a charity trust on a plot of land provided by the government. This building is just enough to provide the very basic learning and living needs of the children, therefore it needs an urgent upgradation in terms of both space and specialized facilities.
We believe this is just the beginning of a service that can touch and light the world of the visually impaired. We look forward to your support in all forms to ensure the sustenance of this noble deed.
